Hey Reader,
Ask anyone what an introvert should read and you get one answer: Quiet, by Susan Cain.
It’s a great book.
It’s also where almost everyone stops, which leaves you stranded if you’ve already read it and you’re sitting there thinking, right…now what?
I get asked this a LOT.
Especially in comments on social media: what books do I recommend?
Then, in December last year, I started working with an async coaching client, Vanessa. And one of the first things she asked me was what books AND podcasts I would recommend for introverts.
She wanted to truly understand what it means to be an introvert and consume as much on introversion as possible.
For Vanessa, I pulled together a list as part of a PDF I was making for her.
But then I thought about how there are so many introverts stuck on how to find out about more on introversion.
So I added a Toolkit page to my website.
It’s where I have collated the main research on introversion, along with books, podcasts, TED talks and introvert-friendly business platforms – plus, of course, my own products for introverts.
Here are two recommendations to get you started:
If Quiet named the thing for you, The Secret Lives of Introverts by Jenn Granneman is the one to read next. Less the cultural argument, more the inside view – what it really means to be an introvert, day to day, written by someone who lives it.
And for something to listen to on a walk, try The Highly Sensitive Person’s Podcast. It isn’t only about introversion, but if you’ve ever suspected you’re running high sensitivity alongside it, the overlap is where a lot of introverts find the piece that was missing.
You can find the full toolkit here.
And one more thing, since you’re already here:
These resources will help you better understand yourself.
But the part most introverts get stuck on is explaining yourself – to the manager who reads your silence as disengagement, the partner who takes your quiet personally, the family who’ve called you “The Quiet One” since you were able to talk.
That’s the gap the Introvert OS™ User Manual was built to close: the neuroscience of how you’re wired, the patterns that get misread as character flaws, and the exact language for the conversations that cost you the most.
It’s less than the price of a takeaway and you can read it tonight! You’ll find it in the toolkit.
In your corner always,
Sam 💛
